What is all this talk about Reiki (RAY-Key)?
Reiki is a Japanese word for Universal Life Force Energy. Reiki
is a 2,500 year-old hands on system of healing which was
introduced to the Western cultures in the early 1900’s.
According to the classification of the National Center for
Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the US National
Institute of Health, Reiki belongs to “Bio-field Medicine,”
which involves systems that use subtle energy fields from a
Reiki Practitioners hands on and round the body for medical
purposes.
Reiki healing is a highly developed system of energy based
healing techniques that utilizes “Universal Life Force Energy”
to balance, harmonize and transform the body’s energy processes
by cleansing, energizing and balancing the body’s bio-energy
field or “aura.” Reiki therapy is safe and non-invasive. Reiki
is a complement to treatment by a physician. It does not provide
services in lieu of a doctor, nor is it a medical diagnostic
tool. However, it is used in hospices, nursing homes, emergency
rooms, organ transplantation care units, pediatric, neonatal
units. Reiki can be a helpful addition to conventional therapy.
Reiki is a stress reduction and deep relaxation technique for
overall wellness. “When your body is not under stress, then it
can begin to heal.”
During a Reiki session, the Reiki Practitioner places their
hands on and around the client’s body, focusing on the 7 Chakras.
The Client usually experiences relaxation and peacefulness and
may feel warmth and a sense of well being. Some other Reiki

growth, emotion healing, promotes calmness, loosens up blocked
energy, significantly reduces stress, tension, anxiety,
